Couple of months ago Guillaume traveled to Burungu village in Masisi in North Kivu to visit UMAMABU, an organization working with women who were victims of violence, and to exchange experience with them. The Organization has also started with dairy goat project, and it was a great opportunity to learn from each others.
The strategy of the project is to distribute female local goats to the beneficiaries. The local goats will then be bred with the dairy buck which belongs to the Organization. They have a farm where a big shed is built and the goats are kept there in the night, while during the day the goats are in pastures where they graze. The community pays special attention to the hygiene.
Increasing number of similar initiatives in the region shows not only that the project in Walungu took the right direction, but also that it has an advantage due to a good timing and skills which have been being gained through continuous trainings, which could ensure to Walungu a leading position in dairy goat husbandry in the region.
